Hatchet Cove Cicely Aikman

Our fisherman’s shack overlooks a shoreline
Ever moving, evolving, changing
Underneath a collage of oak piers
Creaks in the swish of high tide
At low tide mud flats invaded by seagulls
Digging up clams
As moonlight glitters a stream of fireflies
On the wine dark sea
Our universe in motion is balanced
Tides one hour later each day
Complete their cycle every two weeks
The moon travels through hers every thirty days
And the sun completes her ellipse around our earth
In 365 days
This stream of moonlight pouring down
On our wayward sea haunts us
We are only a dot in the pulsating expansive universe
